ABOUT WHO WE ARE

DiDe is a Rwandan non-government organization working in peace building, including Institutional capacity of correctional services and societal healing.

It is registered under No 597/RGB/NGO/LP/03/2020 as “ORGANISATION DIGNITE EN DETENTION/ RWANDA (DIDE)”.

DiDe was created in 1992 in Geneva, Switzerland. Its activities in Rwanda started in 1998 in Gitarama prison and later in Nyagatare, starting with infrastructure rehabilitation.

The vision of DiDe was to promote a safe and secure environment for people in conflict with the law, resulting from upholding the rule of law and human rights principles and practices during and after detention.

DiDé has been conducting projects in Rwanda for more than 25 years, mainly focusing on women and adolescents in detention as the most vulnerable groups.
From 2013, DiDe expanded its interventions from the correctional facilities to the community with focus on social reintegration and prevention of potential crimes and/or recidivism. This prevention relies on combatting against poverty and inequalities that seem to be the main sources of crimes and discrimination.
